Consumer inflation in Sao Paulo slows in the second reading of May, reports FIPE

The Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation in the city of Sao Paulo, rose 0.30% in the second reading of May, according to data published by the Foundation for Economic Research (FIPR). Consumer inflation in Sao Paulo rises in the third reading of April, pressured by food and housing

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation in the City of Sao Paulo, increased by 0.43% in the first reading of April, strengthening after the 0.31% recorded in the first month of April, according to data published by the Economic Research Institute Foundation (FIPE).

The cost of living in five of the seven components of the FIPE-CPI increased sharply in relation to the first reading of the month.

Housing increased (from 0.32% in the first reading of April to 0.48% in the second reading), food increased (from 0.84% to 1.07%), personal expenses were up (from 0.23% to  0.28%), health climbed (from 0.87% to 1.18%) and, finally, education moved up (from 0.06% to 0.11%).

On the other hand, clothing fell 0.11% in the second reading of the month, reversing the high of 0.05% in the previous reading. Transportation cost also fell in the second reading of the month.Below are the components of the FIPE CPI with results for the first reading of April.

Housing: 0.48%

Food: 1.07%

Transport: -0.61%

Personal Expenses: 0.28%

Health: 1.18%

Clothing: -0.11%

Education: 0.11%

General Index: 0.43%
