Vehicle production in Brazil increases in the first quarter, but employment falls

Production of vehicles in Brazil jumped by 24% in the first quarter of 2017, driven by exports and rental companies renewing their fleets, however, the level of employment within the industry dropped 9%, according to Anfavea.

Brazilian automakers produced 609,800 cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses from January to March this year, in addition to 172,700 vehicles exported, up nearly 70% over the first quarter of 2016. At the same time, nearly 10,000 job posts were closed, there are now 103,600 employees in the sector.
